Johnston Economic Development Corporation hosted their 2020 Annual Meeting on Thursday, January 9th at Trostel’s Greenbriar in Johnston. The meeting kicked off with a Business Meeting to approve the slate of nominees for the 2020 JEDCO Board of Directors. The business meeting was followed by updates from JEDCO and the City of Johnston. David Wilwerding with the City of Johnston focused on highlights from the 2019 Community Development Annual Report and Development Summary.
Brad Scheib with HKGi provided an overview of the Thrive 2040 Comprehensive Plan and reported on insights collected from the Comprehensive Planning process thus far. Meeting attendees were then asked to create Roundtable discussion groups to discuss these insights. Several members of the City of Johnston Community Development and Economic Development staff were present to help lead the discussion for several roundtable groups.
The City of Johnston and HKGi group are currently working to finalize feedback from the early public participation component of the comprehensive planning process.
Note to Developers:
If you are interested in any of the following topics, then you will want to give attention to this next phase in the planning process:
- Multi-Family Housing
- More Zoning Options To provide “layered” buffers between types of development
- The Key Geographic Focus Areas including: NW 70th Ave, the NW Annexation area, the Merle Hay Corridor, Little Beaver Creek and Windsor Parkway
And while not explicitly addressed in the planning documents published thus far, expect a discussion about broadband Internet services for businesses and residents in Johnston.
JEDCO will provide updates when more information regarding the next phase of the comprehensive planning process is known.
