The Johnston Economic Development Corporation’s 2019 Annual Meeting was as informative as it was engaging. Bankers, brokers, contractors and government officials came together at Trostels’ Greenbriar Restaurant & Bar to learn the most recent news about growth, development and infrastructure changes in Johnston (and of course, make deals!).
Kicking off the meeting with 2019 board nominations, JEDCO members voted and welcomed new board members, J.P. Pearson with Charter Bank Johnston, Zach Carlton with Bank Iowa Johnston and Tom Foldes with Bluestone Engineering.
Additionally, special recognition was given to Tim Heldt with Charter Bank Johnston not only for his three years of service as President of Johnston Economic Development Corporation, but also for his active involvement in the organization since its inception more than three decades ago (1987).
The public-private partnership between JEDCO and the City of Johnston has continued to yield positive results in moving development projects forward and working toward greater community goals. While the city remains the primary point of contact for development programs, including managing financial assistance programs like Tax Increment Financing, JEDCO is working as an advocate for progressive development in the Johnston, providing expert consultation and assistance to industry professionals interested in the community.
Adam Plagge, Economic Development Manager for the City of Johnston, shared highlights from the Johnston Community Development Report 2018. Members were also briefed on the city’s most recent Economic Development Guide and the newest online Community Development tools available on the city’s website.
The Johnston Town Center project was a hot topic of discussion, as Adam Plagge outlined ongoing development plans with Hansen Company, Inc.. This update also included information about infrastructure improvements at the Town Center location of 62nd Avenue and Merle Hay Road.
The meeting concluded with a networking reception where guests were able to enjoy tasty appetizers and make lasting business connections.
Thank you to all the members and government officials who took the time to participate in this event, and we look forward to seeing you all again at our 2019 Annual Development Forum at Corteva this spring.
